Modern Greek Salad, Spinach, Chickpea and Feta Parcels

Meal 104 - December 3rd - Modern Greek Salad, Spinach, Chickpea and Feta Parcels

So as a result of Lolz's mussel induced bout of sickness what was supposed to be a weekend of three 15 minute meals turned into a weekend with just one 15 minute meal. Unfortunately, one of the two cancelled meals (for which I had already bought ingredients) was the Moroccan mussels which unsurprisingly Lolz wasn't too keen on. So I set about finding another meal in the book for which the ingredients were similar, which is quite a challenge when you only have 16 left to do.

The meal we decided on was this Greek salad with some veggie parcels. Although rather drastically different from the mussels (which was part of the reasoning behind the choice) we did have quite a few of the ingredients already and thought it looked like it should be quite safe for a delicate stomach.

You may remember that I made a Greek salad a few weeks ago, with some lamb kofte, and I remarked how I was disappointed because the salad was nothing like the excellent Greek salad that features in the "Jamie Does..." book - it was basically lots of lettuce and natural yoghurt with a few vaguely Greek inspired toppings. This one looked much better (it even tells you to scratch the edge of the cucumber with a fork to create fancy little grooves) and contained more authentic ingredients and a proper oil based dressing.

It was the feta parcels though which really grab your attention. I'm not very good with pastry (even the pre-made variety) so I'd be lying if I said I thought this would be a guaranteed success - I thought they would split open or be soggy or something. As it happens though it was quite easy - you put the filling on the sheet of feta, pinch it into a parcel and put it in the oven - and they look sophisticated and nice and crispy when they come out.

Sadly though, like quite a few veggie dishes, the flavour is lacking a bit. They're just a bit bland. Lolz said, "it was lots of things I like but combined in a way that wasn't very nice". Salad was good though.

Lolz gave the dish 6/10. Difficulty rating 3/10.
